The end of an era

Image
A bit dramatic but that's how it feels. :) I finally got my master's degree! It's still difficult to believe there won't be any classes and papers anymore. I feel so relieved, but also a little bit empty and worried about the future. I guess I will feel truly relieved once I find a job. So if you need someone with a master's degree in Japanese and Slavonic Studies you know where to find me. ;) My plants don't care much about what's going on in my life. This carefree Titanopsis is pushing new leaves and enjoying the rare sun light.

Frithia humilis seedlings

You can see the growing progress of these kids here . Sown in June they are now living through their first winter. I never completely stopped watering them and the leaves never stopped growing (older leaves wither at the same ratio as the new leaves grow). It's probably not that visible on the picture but the leaves show some very pretty lines as texture.

Delosperma seedlings get a bigger home

Image
Remember my Delosperma seedlings (click to see their progress over the year)? Sown in April last year they have been growing in a small round 5x5x5 cm pot. This winter the rapid growing stopped and they've lost some of the old leaves. I understand it's winter and all but since I've no experience growing Delosperma I've decided to get them out of the pot and inspect the roots for bugs just in case. First I was baffled because I couldn't get them out but when I did the cause of troubles became apparent: The soil was mostly roots! Huge root system, tangled and all-consuming. I didn't expect that at all. The fairly compact plants above ground looked like they fit into a small pot perfectly. Well, now they will move to a bigger 7x7x11 cm square pot and will hopefully thrive again this year.

Busy days

Yes, I'm still around. It have been really busy weeks or even months. I barely manage to look at my plants at all. A couple didn't make it, but most of them are far enough with the regeneration for this time of the year.  Also, remember me wondering what the plants that started regenerating way too early will do in winter. Well, here's the answer. They just do it all over again... We'll see how this'll work out for them.
