Gracili kids all grown up

Image
... or almost grown up. :) It's the time of the year when our plants don't get enough light and - most importantly! - the camera doesn't either. :D It's all dark without a flash, so I've taken a couple of pics with it (allthough I normally try to avoid it) which are now too light, oh well.. I've sown these gracilidelineata back in 2009 (check out the old family photo !) and there are eight plants left now. Last year they've grown a bit too long but got corrected with this regeneration. The thing is they've regenerated recently but have the whole winter still ahead of them. I'm not watering to keep them from growing until the light situation is better. But I guess I'll have to water them if they get too wrinkly over the next months and just hope it won't ruin their shape. We'll see.

C246 seedlings

Image
Sown 29.10 2010 these guys with a long name of L. pseudotruncatella ssp. groendrayensis 'Witkop form' C246 have finally regenerated into their adult-like long-fissured selves. They're still small though. :) I really like the delicate golden lines even though I've expected C246 to be completely blank.

What an amazing color! I heard they flower in winter. Fingers crossed :)

News from the Frithia pulchra

Image
Remember the Frithia I've rescued from the local gardening store in October? It has survived so far, even with very little leaf-loss. Several new leaves have grown, too. I guess, if everything goes well, with time the leaves will get shorter and the whole plant smaller and more compact. Also, here is the new home for the Frithia humilis seedlings. I'm not sure yet whether they like it.

Prepodesma update

Image
"Other mesembs" are doing well on my windowsill even though I've been growing them since only a little over a year and am still figuring them out. There were a couple of losses but way more success stories. The Prepodesma orpenii grows slowly but steady and looks much better now than back when I first got it , new leaves and everything.

Aloinopsis update 2

Image
Here are my other two Aloinopsis plants. Last I reported on them it was in June and July. While A. schooneesii has grown many new leaves in summer and is currently resting A. malherbei wasn't growing at all when it was hot but is now finally pushing new leaves.

Frithia seedlings: another update

Image
The cute little Frithia humilis seedlings are still looking good. :) I've discovered bugs in their substrate today and spontaneously decided to transplant. Just in case. These pictures were taken before and during the procedure.

Stomatium trifarium

Image
What a wonderful plant! It's been pushing new leaves all summer and still is. And you can really see everytime how happy it is to receive water. I've read these plants don't have a fixed annual cycle, meaning some grow in fall and winter and rest after that, some grow in spring and summer. I guess it depends on conditions and if the plant feels okay with it I'm okay. Anyway the flowers should come in winter and I'm looking forward to it.

Aloinopsis update 1

Image
I'm really pleased with how the Aloinopsis rubrolineata is growing at my place. Starting from July it has grown three pairs of leaves and two side shoots (or whatever they are). While A. schooneesii and A. malherbei are also making progress A. villetii never showed any growth and withered soon after I bought it.

crassula's tiny flowers

Image
It's gloomy and rainy outside, but it seems to be perfect for the Crassula rupestris during its flowering season. It looks very pretty but sometimes the smell makes me wish it would be over soon. :D

I took some time but here it is. I think it is the last one this year. Most of the lithops are already regenerating.
